Patient Satisfaction With Lasik
A series of studies on patient satisfaction with Lasik eye surgery showed a satisfaction rate consistently over 90 per cent.
As time goes on and more and more operations and more research and development in the procedures are carried out, things can only get better as more surgeons become skilled in the procedure.
However, one problem is that many patients have unrealistic expectations. They think that Lasik surgery is magic and guarantees 100% satisfaction. In fact, as in any other surgery, some side effects may develop after the procedure. Also, the chance of achieving perfect vision varies according to the patient’s health condition and factors such as the surgeon's experience, and the corneal thickness among others.
That is why you need to educate yourself about the Lasik procedure. You must be aware of all contraindications, precautions, and risks. In addition, you should discuss everything about the surgery with you doctor. In this way you will develop realistic expectations.
You should be aware for example that patients who are both farsighted and nearsighted will need reading glasses after the surgery. This is because the Lasik procedure cannot fix both types of focus. So you might not eliminate your need for glasses but at you can minimize your dependence on them.
If your vision is less than perfect after the surgery, do not worry as there are enhancement procedures available.
